Brooke Van Der Linden
Brooke is currently exploring ideas about kitsch, nostalgia and memory. Specifically, how such notions can be evoked through collage and craft techniques. Her current obsession is collecting vintage craft books and what they can represent; the potential to make something, without any special talent, training or equipment.
Brooke is a current Artist in Residence at the Artists Guild Gallery.
I found the Artists Guild at the perfect time. I was able to exhibit a body of work in the member space that would have otherwise gone unseen. Unashamedly, it was my first time nailing into a wall and once it was all over, returning it to its original condition, it was a basic skill that University had failed to provide me! Thanks to the Artists Guild’s support I no longer have any anxieties about exhibiting my work. I spent my time gallery sitting humbled and inspired by the space and more importantly, making art. From the start of July I have had my little studio set up in the space which has been a dream come true.
